Lessons from the Life of Moses (Part Two)
Session One – Trusting in the Lord: Moses & God’s Provisions (Exodus 15:22-27; 16:1-15; 17:1-7)
We, too, pass through the Red Sea, through the desert, across the Jordan into the promised land. With Israel we fall into doubt and unbelief and through punishment and repentance experience again God’s help and faithfulness.
Session Two – Facing the Impossible: Moses & the Amalekites (Exodus 17:8-16)
If you want a wonderful experience, take your New Testament and use a concordance to look up the two little words, but God.
Session Three – Characteristics of a Godly Leader: Moses & an Overwhelming Task (Exodus 18:13-27)
The authority by which the Christian leader leads is not power but love, not force but example, not coercion but reasoned persuasion. Leaders have power, but power is safe only in the hands of those who humble themselves to serve.
Session Four – Privileges and Responsibilities for God’s People: Moses at Mt. Sinai (Exodus 19:1-8)
Exalting Christ, then, by worship, witness, and service, as the main focus of our uplifting up the triune God, should be our constant aim.
Session Five – Called to Stand in the Gap: Moses, a Golden Calf, and an Angry God (Exodus 32:1-14)
The absence of Moses simply gave the Israelites the opportunity to “worship openly what they had been worshiping in their hearts.
Session Six – Encountering the Lord: Moses and God’s Glory (Exodus 33:18-34:10)
Do you have a hunger for God? If we don’t feel strong desires for the manifestation of the glory of God, it is not because we have drunk deeply and are satisfied. It is because we have nibbled so long at the table of the world.
Session Seven – Learning to Trust the Lord: Moses and His “Complaint” to God (Numbers 11:4-23)
Nothing cures ingratitude as quickly as a good memory.
Session Eight – Lessons in Adversity: Moses and His Siblings (Numbers 12:1-16)
God’s choice acquaintances are humble men.
Session Nine – A Danger of Leadership: Moses and the Rock (Numbers 20:1-13)
Brothers, it is easier to declaim against a thousand sins of others, than to mortify one sin in ourselves.
Session Ten – Finishing Well: Moses and His Final Words (Deuteronomy 31:24-34:8)
He may look on death with joy, who can look on forgiveness with faith.
