Presented by Dr. David HoffeditzOne of the marks of a successful Jesus follower is “to be filled with the Spirit”. However, what does it mean to be filled with the Holy Spirit? What characteristics should we observe? Can a person know if he is filled with the Spirit? These important questions are not easily answered. This morning we will seek to answer these questions from our study of the Bible.

Many of believers have echoed at one point or another Paul’s words in Romans 7: “For I don’t understand what I am doing. For I do not do what I want — instead I do what I hate. . . . For I do not do the good I want, but I do the very evil I do not want!” If we have died to sin and have been set free in Christ, why do we still struggle with sin? Did the Lord expect this condition to be the norm for a believer? If not, then what are the secrets to victorious Christian living? This morning’s study will attempt to answer these questions.

The only command Jesus gave to His disciples upon leaving this earth was to make disciples (see Matthew 28:19-20). The “going,” “teaching,” and “baptizing” are all actions which stem from this command to “make disciples.” But what exactly is discipleship? What is the biblical understanding of this term? And what exactly does discipleship entail? This morning we will briefly look to answer these questions.
